SMARTYPANTS
As a huge fan of Dropout TV productions, (such as Game Changer and Dimension 20) I cold sent my resume and portfolio to the inquiries team at College Humor on the off chance of being included in future show productions — and a few months later a lead designer at Dropout emailed me about working with them on a new show.
The show Smartypants came to life with the help of an insanely talented production team, extremely funny comedians, and a group of other contracted designers like myself. The concept of the show is similar to PowerPoint parties — and my task as a designer was to take the comedian’s ideas for their presentations and bring them to life with photography, illustration, and of course, various design aesthetics.
Each designer was given around six presentations to design over the course of a few weeks — and we collaborated with each comedian to make sure they flowed and looked how they imagined them.
So far, I have worked specifically with:
Season 1:
Ross Bryant, Jessica Ross, Tao Yang, Fuji Abe, Paul Robalino, and Grant O’Brien
Season 2:
Jiavani, Isabella Roland, Cameron Esposito, Courtney Miller, Lorena Russi, and Jessica Ross
Season 3:
Coming Soon!
seasons 1, 2, & 3
GASTRONAUTS
After working with The Dropout team on Smartypants, I was asked to help create a logo patch for their new cooking competition show, Gastronauts. Working on a timeline of around five days, I was tasked with creating a “food-themed NASA-esque badge” that would be made into patches for the chef coats.
I created nine thumbnail sketches for the lead designer and producer, from which we chose a version and began translating it into a vector for print, making alterations to color, textures, and details to make sure the file would print and show well on camera.
